Abstract
This paper presents, optimization of switching operation of tie and sectionalizing switches to perform Network Reconfiguration (NR). The main objectives are to attain minimum loss, to improve voltage profile, power factor and to maintain the power balance in the radial distribution system (RDS) during NR. Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) is used for optimization, which benefits of simpler parameter initialization and obtain results in less computational time, which is a vital factor during power system optimization. The approach has been tested and validated on IEEE 33, 69 and 77 bus practical distribution system. The test yielded satisfactory results and shall be adapted for different topologies, with varying sizes and complex network.
