  • Abstract
Motion Estimation (ME) is the heart of every video compression standard which involves the most complex and time consuming operation. In High Efficient Video Coding Standard (HEVC) the complexity involved in ME is further enhanced due to lager coding unit, quad-tree type of partitioning, larger filter for interpolation and asymmetrical block partitioning. In this paper, we have proposed an efficient motion estimation algorithm using only diamond search grid to meet the requirement of portable and low power devices. To reduce the complexity, we employed sub-sampling and pixel truncation in the proposed algorithm. Experimental result shows that the proposed algorithm requires 43.38 % less search points as compared to TZ search algorithm with almost same PSNR and bit-rate.
