An NFC based innovation for paperless retail transactions and digital receipts management

Engineering innovation for reduced paper usage is a significant step in conserving ecology and stemming climate change. We present an NFC-based electronic innovation to replace paper receipts with easy digital receipts in retail business. Technology aspects of this sustainable innovation are presented, wherein a digital receipt gets instantly transferred to the smartphone. An Android App in the smartphone allows the user to browse through all receipts in an orderly manner. The App makes it very easy to manage bills and receipts, and also becomes a tool to manage individual retail spending through analytics. We show how the App can save 15,000 acres of forest per year if implemented in just the G8 group of countries.
