  • Abstract
The Single Fluid Heat Transfer System (SFHTS) uses single fluid to heat and cool the mass or the reactants. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. Traditionally, Proportional Integral Derivative Controller or Proportional Integral controller is used to control the operation of SFHTS. In this research work, investigation was carried out to estimate the dynamics of the SFHTS which confirmed the SFHTS to be a nonlinear system. The SFHTS was modularized into Thermal Transfer Module and Level Control Module. Nonlinear controllers namely, Sliding Mode controller and Feedback Linearization Controller were used to control the simulated model of the system. The quantified results showed that the desired parameters, settling time and overshoot, were comparatively better than those when PID and PI controllers were used to control the operation. Also the FBL controller subjected the control valve for minimum stress thereby increased its mean life time. Hence FBL Controller and SM Controller were recommended for the Thermal Transfer Module and Level control Module respectively.
