  • Abstract
Accurate fault location reduces operating costs by avoiding lengthy and expensive patrols. It also expedites repairs and restoration of lines, ultimately reducing revenue loss caused by outages. For this exact phasor estimation and selection of best fault data window are the basic requirements. This paper highlights on the brief comparison of phasor estimation techniques so that to identify one most suited to calculate accurate location. It also gives new possible way to determine fault location using simple reactance method in presence of two end data (synchronized or unsynchronized). This paper uses fault location by using only single end data. These algorithms are implemented and tested using Scilab. Several fault cases have been simulated in MiPower/ETA software. Performances of these implemented algorithms have been compared by using various cases.
