Abstract :
In this paper, a direct synthesis method is presented for the stabilization of time delay systems. We design a modified Smith predictor with three controllers namely stabilizing controller, setpoint tracking controller and load disturbance rejection controller. The controllers are designed using a direct synthesis approach via the eigenvalue assignment. The proposed approach assigns a subset of eigenvalues of time delay process at the desired locations without approximating the delay. Moreover, the controller design is carried out without any pole zero cancellation. Stability is ensured with the help of the Nyquist plot. The proposed method gives improved performance compared to the other reported methods. Simulation results are provided for the clarification of the proposed method.
