Abstract :
The maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique enables maximization of the energy production of photovoltaic sources during stochastically varying solar irradiation and ambient temperature conditions. Various methods have been presented in the literature for performing the MPPT process under uniform incident solar irradiation. However, due to the short and long-term variability of solar irradiation, all the MPPT processes could not be able to detect the maximum power point (MPP) precisely. Also, the convergence speed of these techniques are not same. To observe such characteristics, this paper aims to present a technical comparison among perturb and observe (P&O), conventional incremental conductance and modified incremental conductance algorithms under fast changing solar irradiation level. The simulation results which are obtained from MATLAB show that the modified incremental conductance MPPT shows no steady-state oscillation after MPP is tracked. Beside this algorithm works accurately and faster than other mentioned algorithms.
