  • Abstract
This paper presents a Defected Core Hybrid Cladding photonic crystal fiber with extremely high birefringence and highly negative dispersion properties at telecommunication window. This photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a defected core having intentionally introduced walls of elliptical air holes is analyzed with full-vectorial finite element method (FEM). The proposed structure exhibits an extremely high birefringence (4.39×10-2) at operating wavelength 1550nm which is the highest to date and is particularly useful for the generation of a polarization stable supercontinuum (SC). The proposed PCF also exhibits the properties of a dispersion flattened fiber for only one polarization and large negative dispersion for the other which leads to a single polarization SC. The highly negative dispersion found is -662.2 ps/nm/km at operating wavelength 1550nm which is useful for dispersion compensating fiber.
