Abstract :
The rapid development of wind power has made grid integration and operational issues become the focus of research in the industry. One approach to coping with the issues is to resort to the successful experiences of the other countries based on understanding of own basic conditions. Compliance with grid connection standards for wind power plants (WPP) is crucial in ensuring reliability and stability operation of the power grid. Based on the challenges faced by China and the US, the standards for grid-connected WPP in the two countries are compared in this paper. Detailed analysis in power quality, fault ride-through capability, active power control, reactive power control, voltage control, and wind power forecasting is provided to enhance the understanding of grid codes in the two largest markets of wind power, propose recommendations to the amendments of technical standards and facilitate the reliability and stability operation of the power grid with large-scale wind power.
