Abstract :
Thulium-doped multi-component glass in the composition of 20ZrF/sub 4/-30ZnF/sub 2/-25AlF/sub 3/-10BaF/sub 2/-14YF/sub 3/-1TmF/sub 3/ (mol%) has been prepared and its blue up-conversion emissions are reported. A quantum efficiency of 58% was obtained for a blue up-conversion at 452 nm. The energy levels and blue up-conversion mechanisms of this glass have been explained.
