Abstract :
Austenitic stainless steels are ductile and malleable in its group have received the attention of manufacturers in metal forming technology. Microstructural characterization of austenitic stainless steels S304 is focused on the deep drawing process of sheet metal having a thickness of 0.3 mm. Press diameter of 33 mm to form cylindrical cup used in this experiment. Deep drawing process carried out with velocity of 0.86 mm/s and 2 mm/s in condition with lubrication and without lubrication. Changes in the microstructure of the cross section of the cup which is etched with a solution of glycerol show austenitic phase changes (γ) to martensitic (α) after the deep drawing process. Significant elongation of the microstructure in the wall of the cup shows high strain occurred in this section. Cross sectional thickness of the cup and crack formation in the wall of the cup are compared between drawn cup with and without lubricant.
