Abstract :
Concerning a VSC-HVDC system used for wind power transmission, it is crucial to ensure the VSC-HVDC system´s robustness against a DC short-circuit fault. This paper introduces two different types of superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) to mitigate the short-circuit current and improve the VSC-HVDC system´s transient performance. The two SFCLs are inductive and resistive, and will be respectively placed in series with the DC transmission line. From the theoretical analysis and simulation evaluation, both of the two SFCLs can contribute to suppress the DC fault current and compensate the DC-voltage sag. In view of their specific performance behaviors such as current-limiting ratio and mitigating voltage fluctuation, applying the resistive SFCL may play a better role than the inductive SFCL.
