Abstract :
Axial field flux-switching permanent magnet machine (AFFSPMM) has some advantages such as short axial size, large torque density and high efficiency, and therefore it can be applied to drive electric vehicles (EV) directly. In the paper, the C- and E-core machines are researched on basis of a three phase U-core AFFSPMM. The electromagnetic performances are analyzed and compared by 3-D finite element method (FEM). It is found that the C-core AFFSPMM can obtain similar amplitude of back-EMF and higher output torque in comparison with the U-core machine, and the E-core machine can improve fault-tolerant capability and reduce the torque ripple.
