Abstract
This paper mainly presents the thermal stability of a quasi-isotropic strand composed of stacked high temperature superconducting coated conductors (CC). The strand was sheathed by different kinds of metal such as copper and aluminum. The quench characteristics of the strand, including the minimum quench energy (MQE) and the quench propagation velocity (QPV), were simulated by software Comsol5.0. The simulated results show that the thermal stability of strands with copper sheath is higher than that one with aluminum sheath.
