Abstract :
In this paper, new high temperature superconducting (HTS) vernier machines with all HTS excitations on the stator, termed as stator HTS vernier machines, are proposed and investigated. Since all the HTS excitations are mounted on the stator, the proposed HTS machines take the merits of low cost refrigerating system for HTS excitations and high torque density due to the HTS excitations and magnetic gearing effect in the vernier structure. In addition, the influence of leading design parameters, such as ampere turns ratio between the field and armature windings, stator pole arc, rotor pole arc on the average output torque are investigated for the proposed stator HTS vernier machines having 18/7, 18/8, 18/10, and 18/11 stator/rotor pole.
