Abstract :
More and more high temperature superconducting (HTS) devices have been built by employing the high current-carrying superconducting cable which is made by a few coated conductors in parallel. These HTS devices generally have a large capacity because of the high performance of the current carrying. Therefore, a cable with high current density becomes a key point for the HTS devices application. There are two kinds of superconducting cable, a helical cable and a Roebel cable, are proposed in this paper. Their optimal structure and the electromagnetic characteristics are presented based on finite element analysis method. Two 3D models are built for a helical cable and Roebel cable with variable geometry. The magnetic flux distributions along the axis are discussed considering the different geometry parameters. Our model can be further applied for the cable design in high current application under magnetic field.
