Abstract :
A planar monopole antenna for ultra-wide band (UWB) application has been presented in this paper. In order to gain an excellent band-rejection characteristic, a hexagonal-shaped patch and a Π - shaped slot has been designed. The performance of the proposed antenna is investigated by using the software High-frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS), and the results achieve good impedance matching over an operating bandwidth of 2.62 - 11.80 GHz, which meets the requirement of UWB application well. Furthermore, the notched frequency band of 4.98 - 6.03 GHz is achieved to avoid the possible interference from the wireless local area network (WLAN) and HIPERLAN/2 (High Performance Radio LAN/2). Additionally, the antenna depicts a good performance of radiation patterns.
