Abstract :
To evade external interference, especially busy Wi-Fi signals, Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Networks require the cognitive feature for channel management. This paper quantitatively investigates the impact of Wi-Fi interference on IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPANs by the site surveys on real-life Wi-Fi traffic patterns, and further data analysis. The results include the typical real-life Wi-Fi interference levels, the expected failure rates of IEEE 802.15.4 transmissions under such interference, and the recommended strategies to successfully leave the interfered channel. The numerical results of this paper may also be used for future research on Malkov-model-based channel analysis.
