Abstract :
Nowadays, there is unprecedented interest in renewable energy (RE) due to its environmental benefits (in terms of CO2 emissions) and especially to the reduced cost and efficiency of corresponding technologies. However, before deploying RE technology (e.g., wind and solar), one needs to identify sites with high power potential to justify monetary investments. In this paper, we study the wind energy potential of two sites in Morocco, namely Tetouan (north of Morocco) and Rabat (West of Morocco). One year wind data at 9 meters height were assessed and subjected to Weibull function. More specifically, we computed wind probability density together with wind power density. The results show that Tetouan has high wind energy potential suited for technology deployment (i.e. wind farms) which is not the case for Rabat.
