  • Abstract
In this paper, a FDTD scheme based on a pure scattered-field formulation is introduced to analyze the electromagnetic interaction of a handheld transceiver unit and a human head in personal communications. Orthogonal rectangular grid is used and the computational space domain is terminated using the transparent absorbing boundary (TAB). The specific absorption rates (SAR) in various tissues are calculated and plotted at various cross-sections of the head model. The implemented scheme summarized in the paper is flexible to accommodate modeling of a wide variety of antenna and tissue topologies.
