Abstract
This paper considers the localization of emitter by exploiting the prior information about signal waveforms to improve localization accuracy in the passive radar systems, configured with several distributed base stations. The received signals from all stations are jointly processed in a fusion center to directly estimate the position of emitter. Firstly a localization algorithm is proposed assuming that the signal waveform transmitted by the emitter is completely known. It is essentially a maximum-likelihood estimator by searching parameters of interest in a high-dimensional space. On the basis of above algorithm, we discussed the method using the prior information of signal waveforms to enhance the localization accuracy for the case of unknown signal waveforms. Simulation results show that all algorithms can provide robust and accurate position estimation of the emitter. The algorithm using signal waveform information is superior to the algorithm without regard to the information and more information of signal waveform is utilized the better localization performance is achieved.
