Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of the background ionospheric effects on the repeat-pass interferometric SAR. The analysis is mainly related to the ionospheric dispersive phase and Faraday Rotation (FR). The background ionosphere results in both the deterioration of coherence and the interferometric phase error. This will affect the performance of height measurement for InSAR systems. The theoretical derivation and analyses of these two ionospheric characteristics are presented, followed by the performance calculations of spaceborne InSAR systems using typical parameters.
