Abstract :
We propose and analyze different geolocation updating schemes for location aware services in wireless cellular networks. We show that trajectory prediction and adaptive updating intervals can significantly decrease the amount of signaling load generated by geolocation updates sent by mobile stations. An intelligent yet simple scheme for tracking and predicting users´ locations and computing geolocation updating intervals provides a multifold decrease in signaling load in networks where users with a dominant direction of movement are present.
