Abstract
A novel scheme is presented to eliminate the redundant hardware as well as the redundant transformed data in the image compression. It is shown that by removing a major portion of the transformed matrix the quality of the reconstructed image is not significantly altered while a considerable saving in the hardware (chip area), reduction in the transmitted or stored data, and a higher speed in the processing operation is achieved
