A surface chemistry approach to the study of solid electrodes in insulating liquids

Many previous studies on the phenomena of breakdown in insulating oils suggest that the nature of the interfacial layer at the electrode/oil interface influences the breakdown process ^1–3. Same studies also indicate that the cathode plays a more important role than the anode in initiating processes which eventually leads to breakdown ⁴.
