Abstract :
Almost without exception, magnet wire is wound into coils for its actual application. Magnet wire, therefore, might be better called winding wire and its windability or softness is an important factor in the efficient production of high quality coils of all types used in motors and various kinds of apparatus. On the other hand, once the coil is in place, after having been suitably treated, for instance by impregnation or embedding, it is expected to have an acceptable life under the various adverse conditions it may encounter such as high temperatures, corrosive atmospheres and electrical and mechanical stresses. Obviously, it becomes important to standardize tests that are able to predict windability and performance.
