Abstract
Recent work in wireless standardization bodies has focused on enhancing third-generation CDMA systems to more efficiently deliver best-effort data services while retaining the spectral efficiency normally associated with such systems for voice users. However, radio link allocation to data users in such systems is on shared resources and for short periods of time, and as a result it is difficult to use traditional methods of power control to mitigate the effects of multiple access interference. As a result, these data users are not power controlled and moreover power allocation to such data users on shaped channels in the presence of power-controlled voice users is not straightforward. In this paper, an adaptive algorithm for power allocation to shared-channel data users in CDMA systems is presented, with simulation results provided to show the benefits of such a framework for mixed-QoS CDMA systems.
