Abstract :
This paper discuss the performance of a microcontroller based charge controller coupled with an solar Photovoltaic (PV) system for improving the charging/discharging control of battery. The solar charge controller will prevent the overcharging of the battery hence will be useful for lengthening the lifespan of the battery. It will also help prevent electricity from flowing from the batteries to the solar panels at night. Solar charge controller will prove to be useful in blocking the reverse current flow which otherwise may lead to discharge of the batteries at night. The results obtained demonstrate the good performance of the charge controller as well as the benefits of its use in the power quality improvement.
