Abstract :
Currently the product information flow often breaks down after the delivery of the product to the final customer; this is also the case in the automotive industry. As EU legislation is requiring a strictly higher recycling rate in the business of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), the recycling / recovery strategy for the ELVs´ components should be formulated more cautiously and economically. To meet these requirements, the whole lifecycle information of a vehicle is needed by the dismantlers to make accurate recycling / recovery decisions. PEID (Product Embedded Information Devices) systems can be implemented in the vehicle to collect and record all the necessary lifecycle information. For end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) treatment, once PEID systems are used to collect lifecycle data, a Decision Support System (DSS) is needed to manipulate the information and help the operator optimise the decision results during the treatment. In this paper, a Web-based DSS for ELVs is designed in the context of using PEID technology. Its decision flow and the system structure are also presented.
