Abstract :
This paper figures out the analytical expression of the travelling wave caused by the fault on a transmission line. With the help of the expression, how the different fault situations (including fault type, fault position, fault transition resistance, fault voltage phase angle, bus structure, etc.) can influence the performance of the travelling wave fault locators is discussed. In the paper, a simulation model is built for testing the fault locators. According to the model, the detailed test scheme is proposed to detect the performance of the fault locators in all aspects. In addition, the paper studies on the models of the transmission lines and the secondary circuit, which are the difficulties in simulation modelling.
