Abstract
This paper looks into the packet size optimization for maximization of the energy efficiency in IEEE 802.15.6 ultra-wideband (UWB) WBANs. Both direct as well as incremental relay-based cooperative schemes are considered for optimizing the length of the medium access control (MAC) frame body. The default mode is considered. Probability of packet detection and successful reception of physical layer header and data payload in both cases are derived. Path loss model with shadowing is considered for analysis. Results reveal an increase in optimal frame length and extension of hop length in case of cooperative communication scheme as compared to direct communication for both in-body as well as on-body propagation models.
