Abstract :
Use of infrared radiation for biometric application is very new and interesting concept. It provides promising result in the field of security and medical application. Person identification with vein pattern is more recent approach that uses vein mesh underneath the person´s skin. This vein pattern is unique for each individual and it is difficult to do forgery or copy. In this paper a new approach is presented to implement chain code histogram based hand vein detection system. The vein image is captured using infrared light source and mobile camera. To enhance the image adaptive histogram equalization technique is used. Image segmentation is performed to identify the veins and the features are extracted using chain code histogram technique. The experiment is performed on 55 different subjects and it indicates that the proposed system performs well for user identification. The proposed system achieved good performance in terms of false acceptance rate (FAR) and false rejection rate (FRR).
