Abstract :
Coherent identification is a key step in dynamic equivalence based on coherency for reduction large power systems. An algorithm named modified PSO-FCM (MPSO-FCM), which the fuzzy c-means clustering (FCM) bases on modified particle swarm optimization (MPSO), is presented to solve the problem of identifying coherent generators. For the purpose to improve convergence performance, convergence factor and disturbance particle by randomly selecting are introduced into MPSO, so the shortcoming that FCM falls into local optimization is improved. Moreover, a valid function is presented to evaluate the clustering result. Simulation shows that MPSO-FCM algorithm is applicable for identifying coherent generators for large power systems online because of its simplicity, high efficiency and good convergence performance.
