Abstract :
this paper proposed a control strategy for STATCOM based on particle swarm algorithm (PSO) according to online adaptively adjusted the parameter of PI control loop. Reactive power optimal compensation of bus voltage can be realized under various disturbances. Electromagnetic transient simulation model of small scale power grid with STATCOM device has been built. Conventional double closed-loop control for STATCOM and PSO intelligent control system was designed. Control effect was compared and analyzed by simulation. The result show that PSO can significantly improve the influence of grid voltage caused by reactive load and it proved the validity of STATCOM control strategy based on PSO.
