  • Abstract
The instinct characteristics and advantages of low earth orbit (LEO) communications satellites have made LEO satellite communication an important trend in the future communications. For such a communication system, inter-satellite link is an essential part. However, due to its time-variant nature caused by e.g., light-of-sight (LOS) effect, Doppler frequency shift and noise, the data transmission performance of the link exhibits stochastic behaviors, which consequently challenges performance evaluation of the link´s Quality of Service (QoS). The aim of this paper is to address this challenge. Specifically, we model the link using a finite-state Markov channel (FSMC). In addition, we analyze the delay and backlog performance of data transmission over the link by making use of a newly developed theory: Stochastic Network Calculus. Furthermore, numerical results are presented, from which discussion and conclusion are made providing insights on how different parameters may affect the data transmission performance of the link.
