Abstract :
To effectively control botnets, a study on modeling and analyzing the propagation characteristics of botnets has been lasted for many years. Due to the real network has scale-free properties, it is unrealistic for mainstream propagation models to describe how the bots spread based on random network. Hence, in this paper, we take two key factors which can reflect the scale-free feature of actual Internet into consideration in the modeling process. Moreover, our new model introduces latent period in order to describe exactly the dynamic characteristics of botnets. The simulation result indicates that our propagation model based on improved Susceptible-Exposed-Infective-Recovered-Susceptible (SEIRS) model is more exactly inflect characteristics of bot propagation on the actual Internet. And a control strategy of botnet based on scale-free network is proposed according to the conclusions draw by our model.
