Abstract :
The control strategies for back-to-back power conditioner of variable speed wind energy system are presented in this work. Hysteresis current control PWM technique is adopted to control machine side boost converter. The rectified dc voltage is maintained constant for various operating frequencies of the generator. Also, rectified dc voltage is varied up to desired level. The space vector PWM technique with MPPT is applied to control grid side converter. With the help of aforementioned PWM control techniques, the Active power generated from Wind Mill (PMSG generator) at high speed is fed to the utility grid at unity power factor (within the power conditioner VA rating) within the stipulated harmonic current standard. At low wind speed, reactive power is injected into the utility grid where PMSG act as dynamic VAR. The viability of these control strategies are validated through Matlab simulation results.
