Abstract
Most of the thermal power plants in the world are coal fired. They contribute to major part of the world total electric supply. Coal fired plants are known to have low load take up rate and sometimes face complete shutdown. This is basically due to the poor dynamic response of the coal mills. This paper focuses on the flow control of pulverized fuel (pf flow) of the coal mill. The control performance given by the conventional PID, Fuzzy-PID and I minus P minus D (I-P-D) controllers for the pf flow control are studied in this paper. The control performance of the above controllers is tested for the set point tracking and disturbance rejection mode. Simulation results show that the I-PD controller gives better performance than PID and Fuzzy-PID controllers.
