Abstract :
In two area interconnected power system controlling the frequency deviation is a major problem. This paper represents tuning of Proportional plus integral (PI) controller based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) method. Tuning of PSO based PI controller is done such that it will maintain the desired frequency in both areas and also power interchange with neighboring area is maintained to set point or close to it. PSO based PI controller is compared with conventional method of tuning i.e. Ziegler Nichols method. The comparisons shows that proposed PSO based PI controller is efficient over conventional method. The proposed PSO based PI controller for load frequency control of two area interconnected power system is developed by using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
