Abstract :
In developing countries the power infrastructure is under extreme stress owing to development activities. Necessary power infra-structure has to be raised to meet the growing demand for power. So, planning a transmission network is very essential to maintain the crucial link in the power systems. The primary objective of the paper is to develop a method for Transmission Expansion Planning (TEP) that is comprehensive and suitable for a deregulated environment. To accommodate the desires of different stake holders, the expansion problem is formulated as a multi-objective optimization function and a Transmission Planning Index (TPI) is devised. The multi-objective function represents economic and technical criteria. This multi-objective function is optimized using different heuristic optimization approaches like Backward Search (BS), Forward Search (FS), Hybrid Search (HS) and Meta heuristic approaches like Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA). The validity of the proposed approach is demonstrated by considering a test case of IEEE 24 bus Reliability Test System (RTS) System which consists of 38 lines.
