Abstract :
This paper compares analytical and Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) methods for assessment of voltage sags. For comparing two methods, symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults are considered and fault locations are randomly selected along the lines using probability distributions. Mean time of occurrence of a fault is calculated based on the probabilistic nature of occurring faults. The proposed method is applied to a practical Indian distribution system. The voltage sags magnitude of different buses are calculated and results are compared with the earlier proposed analytical method.
