Abstract :
Power grids are susceptible to blackouts and cascading failures. The frequent occurrences of power grid blackouts have thrown the light on vulnerability of the power system raising immense interest among researchers. The analogy of power grid with complex network has led to a new dimension in power system based on which power grid can be modelled as a graph with vertices and edges. Two recent indices of complex network theory are analysed for assessing vulnerable lines of power grids. The most important lines which are critical are analysed by using betweenness index and then vulnerability in terms of netability of the system is assessed before and after the removal of the important lines. Standard IEEE 57 Bus system is considered as case study.
