Abstract :
This paper presents a moving average method (MAM) applied to the target detection in the FMCW (frequency modulated continuous waves) radar, which uses array antennas with different characteristics of radiation beam-with at K-band. The MAM may smooth out the short-term fluctuation in the system responses by using the received data in time series It is a statistics method to analyze the data points by creating a series of data averaged from different subsets of the full data set. It is especially useful for the radar system with over-narrowed radiation beamwidth of antennas[1]. In this paper, the FMCW radar is operated at 24.125 GHz with 250 MHz bandwidth, and implements a linear frequency modulation (LFM) for TX/RX with 1mW in TX power. The output responses are the peak values of signals after being processed by the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and MAM. The experimental results are presented to show the reflection responses of a vehicle within the FMCW radar coverage range.
