Abstract :
This paper proposes a new Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) encoding scheme based on Base62x. URI is one of the base components of the Internet. URI is usually encoded in numerous applications for easy access. Current methods include encoding the URI with a percentage symbol followed by hexadecimal code (%hex) or the use of Base64. Deficiencies of existing methods include problems that "%hex" increases the length of encoded strings almost threefold and Base64 introduces error-prone symbols. Furthermore, to resolve the above issues, many tailored URI encoding schemes have been introduced for specific purposes, which can give rise to confusion during future development. With the literature reviews on existing approaches, this paper introduces a new general scheme of encoding URI by Base62x, which provides 64-bit representation using only standard characters (a-z, A-Z, 0-9). The scheme will bring a cost-effective Internet for the future.
