Abstract :
Rational design and optimizations of power systems will become increasingly important the in future due to anticipated power crises and negative effects of fossil fuels on the environment. The programs such as GEMIS, SESAM, WASP and the design system MESAP allow the development and design of power systems according to different scenarios. When collecting data needed for a calculation of a scenario in a program, one always encounters difficulties in how to obtain data of sufficient quality. The paper presents the GEMIS program and the authors´ experience in data collection, and points to the possibilities offered by such a program when linked to GIS programs. The authors also made some analyses of Slovenian energy development scenarios on the basis of the GEMIS model.
