Abstract
In order to improve the efficiency of image coding, we have combined the well-established subband coding (SBC) with DPCM. We have used the third-order predictor, as a trade-off between the simplicity of the first-order and the efficiency of the higher-order predictors. The quantising noise effect on prediction computation is very near to its minimum values in the subbands, which vary from 0.451 (the highest subband) to 0.855 (the lowest subband).
