Abstract
In this paper we present an application of the generalized averaging technique for modeling and control of active filters. In particular, attention is focused on applications where the loads to be compensated are unknown, and may include some internal reactive and/or resonant compensation system. In such cases conventional compensation strategies may lead to unstable operation. We explore the effectiveness of a family of controllers based on notions of incremental energy and dissipativity. Following the passivity-based design procedure, we obtain a compensation strategy based on a voltage detection method, which allows stable active filter operation regardless of line and load parameter variations. This compensation strategy allows compensation and damping of specific harmonic currents for positive, negative and, possibly, zero sequence components.
