Abstract :
We propose a simple bit-rate-independent PMD (polarization mode dispersion) monitoring scheme for WDM systems that uses two polarization scramblers and a PDL (polarization-dependent-loss) component. We monitor the instantaneous DGD (differential group delay) for NRZ (non RZ) and RZ (return-to-zero) formats, and use the monitor output as a feedback for PMD compensation of a 10 Gbit/s NRZ channel.
