Abstract :
Current transport protocols may not be suitable for streaming real-time compressed video data over a wireless channel. This is primarily true because the relatively high bit error rate of the channel can lead to packet corruption, while the limited bandwidth restricts the use of channel coding. Corrupted packets may be discarded, making the transmitter assume that congestion is occurring. Instead of developing a completely new protocol, we propose modifications to the enhanced trivial file transfer protocol (ETFTP) to allows its use for MPEG-4 wireless video transmission. Additionally, a systems architecture is described where the application layer video packets are encapsulated in ETFTP packets, so that data-link layer channel coding can be applied.
