  • Abstract
We present excellent performance results (Q-factor>9dB) for a transparent short-reach metropolitan area ring network based on application-optimized, optical layer components and fiber. The network consists of 4 nodes interconnected by 25.5 km spans of uncompensated negative dispersion fiber (102 km ring circumference, no dispersion compensation) and supports 32 directly modulated channels operating at 10 Gb/s (320 Gb/s total capacity).
